Best Rock Grammy Award Nominations

Published by dletus at 6:12 am under Rock (General) Edit This

Wow! Did you see the Grammy Awards nomination show last night? Me neither. But the Rockblog has sifted through the categories to bring you all the nominations for the 51st Grammy Awards announced last night that really matter (OK, so NONE of them really matter, but these categories don’t completely suck because they’re “rock”).

Here are the Field 4 - Rock Grammy Award nominations and the Rockblog’s picks of who will win each award. These picks are not who the Rockblog thinks should win, but our educated guess at who the Grammy award judges will vote for based on past awards and the fact they know as little about rock as the people at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance
(For a solo vocal performance. Singles or Tracks only.)

  • Gravity
    John Mayer
  • I Saw Her Standing There
    Paul McCartney
  • Girls In Their Summer Clothes
    Bruce Springsteen
  • Rise
    Eddie Vedder
  • No Hidden Path
    Neil Young

Projected 2009 Grammy Award Winner: Sir Paul McCartney. He’s a former Beatle not named Ringo and therefore can do no wrong.

Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals
(For duo, group or collaborative performances, with vocals. Singles or Tracks only.)

  • Rock N Roll Train
    AC/DC
  • Violet Hill
    Coldplay
  • Long Road Out Of Eden
    Eagles
  • Sex On Fire
    Kings Of Leon
  • House Of Cards
    Radiohead

Projected 2009 Grammy Award Winner: Coldplay. Bland as hell and critics love them. Perfect for the Grammys.

Best Hard Rock Performance
(For solo, duo, group or collaborative performances, with vocals. Singles or Tracks only.)

  • Inside The Fire
    Disturbed
  • Visions
    Judas Priest
  • Wax Simulacra
    The Mars Volta
  • Saints Of Los Angeles
    Mötley Crüe
  • Lords Of Salem
    Rob Zombie

Projected 2009 Grammy Award Winner: Pick ‘em. No real Grammy judge “that’s who I always vote for” favorite in this category. Priest might get the nod because they’ve been around the longest.

Best Metal Performance
(For solo, duo, group or collaborative performances, with vocals. Singles or Tracks only.)

  • Heroes Of Our Time
    DragonForce
  • Nostradamus
    Judas Priest
  • My Apocalypse
    Metallica
  • Under My Thumb
    Ministry
  • Psychosocial
    Slipknot

Projected 2009 Grammy Award Winner: Metallica. The Grammy judges recognize the name because they’ve voted for them before.

Best Rock Instrumental Performance
(For solo, duo, group or collaborative performances, without vocals. Includes Rock, Hard Rock and Metal. Singles or Tracks only.)

  • Castellorizon
    David Gilmour
  • Suicide & Redemption
    Metallica
  • 34 Ghosts I-IV
    Nine Inch Nails
  • Hope (Live For The Art Of Peace)
    Rush
  • Peaches En Regalia
    Zappa Plays Zappa

Projected 2009 Grammy Award Winner: Zappa Plays Zappa. Father Frank Zappa was posthumously given the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1997 and he wrote the song, so the Rockblog can see the Zappa name getting the vote here.

Best Rock Song
(A Songwriter(s) Award. Includes Rock, Hard Rock & Metal songs. For Song Eligibility Guidelines see Category #3. (Artist names appear in parentheses.) Singles or Tracks only.)

  • Girls In Their Summer Clothes
    Bruce Springsteen, songwriter (Bruce Springsteen)
  • House Of Cards
Colin Greenwood, Jonny Greenwood, Ed O’Brien, Philip Selway & Thom Yorke, songwriters (Radiohead)
  • I Will Possess Your Heart
Benjamin Gibbard, Nicholas Harmer, Jason McGerr & Christopher Walla, songwriters (Death Cab For Cutie)
    Track from: Narrow Stairs
  • Sex On Fire
Caleb Followill, Jared Followill, Matthew Followill & Nathan Followill, songwriters (Kings Of Leon)
  • Violet Hill
Guy Berryman, Jonny Buckland, Will Champion & Chris Martin, songwriters (Coldplay)

Projected 2009 Grammy Award Winner: Bruce Springsteen. He has 18 Grammys lining the mantlepiece in his New Jersey home and I can’t imagine the Grammy judges sending him back there empty handed.

Best Rock Album
(Vocal or Instrumental. Includes Hard Rock and Metal.)

  • Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends
    Coldplay
  • Rock N Roll Jesus
    Kid Rock
  • Only By The Night
    Kings Of Leon
  • Death Magnetic
    Metallica
  • Consolers Of The Lonely
    The Raconteurs

Projected 2009 Grammy Award Winner: Coldplay. Still bland as hell, still loved by the critics, and still perfect for the Grammys.

Sometimes I feel like I’m the only person who hates Paul McCartney. The guy is a total flid.

He once held a private birthday party at his house and CHARGED people for drinks at his private bar.
